What is the status of the Iota 100th Centennial Celebration?

The Iota 100th Centennial Celebration was postponed to Friday, March 18, 2022, through Sunday, March 20, 2022. We hope that by March 2022, Grand Chapter will permit us to hold the 100th-anniversary in-person, in accordance with CDC guidelines and those of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Our planning will reflect an in-person model unless guidelines set by Grand Chapter require us to do otherwise. (Grand Chapter recently announced that the 55th National Convention would happen in November 2021 via a hybrid model. However, at this time, Delta’s mandatory halt of in-person activities for chapters remains in place, including reunions and anniversaries, so Iota Chapter is required to adhere to and plan in accordance with that mandate.)

What will the Committee do to honor Iota in 2021?

The 100th Committee will host a virtual gathering to celebrate Iota Chapter’s 100th Anniversary on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. ET. This event is free of charge, and we will communicate additional details to all Iota-initiated sorors in the coming months

I can no longer attend the Celebration, can I get a refund?

We cannot provide refunds because we are still under contract with the hotel and must fulfill obligations associated with the event. The 100th Committee communicated the no refund policy at the time of registration. In place of a refund, registrants may identify another Iota-initiated soror who wants to transfer/purchase her registration at a later date. Sorors who wish to transfer a registration are asked to contact us at iota100th@gmail.com immediately.

What is a registration transfer? How can I complete one?

A registration transfer involves replacing one individual with another individual for the same event. The transfer can be offered as a gift or for a price determined between the two individuals not to exceed the original cost of the registration. Iota Chapter does not negotiate transfer agreements or payments between sorors. However, if you are unable to attend the Centennial and would like to transfer your registration to an Iota-initiated soror, consider initiating these steps:

  1. Find an Iota-initiated soror who wishes to attend the Centennial and has not yet registered. The Iota Facebook Group and GroupMe chat are great places to look!
  2. Contact the Iota 100th Committee (iota100th@gmail.com) so that we can confirm the transfer.
  3. Organize payments for non-gifted registration transfers via a contactless electronic system (e.g., Cash App, Zelle, Venmo, ApplePay, Bank checks, etc.)

Is the Iota Centennial event still being held at the Quincy Marriott?

Yes, the event location has not changed.

How can I reserve my room at the hotel?

The 100th Committee will email room booking information to registered sorors who indicate that they wish to stay at the Quincy Marriott. Since there are a limited number of reserved rooms, only sorors who have paid their registration in full will be able to book one room at the discounted rate on a first-come, first-serve basis. We ask that sorors refrain from contacting the hotel for room bookings.

Can you provide an update on sub-committees and how I can sign up?

A limited number of volunteer opportunities are still available. Please refer to the sub-committee list to sign up. We encourage sorors to review the sub-committee descriptions before signing up. If you have any questions, please contact us at iota100th@gmail.com.

Will COVID-19 vaccines or tests be required to attend the Centennial?

At this time, we do not know whether COVID-19 vaccines or test results will be required. We will continue to monitor CDC, Grand Chapter, and state and local guidelines and update sorors as soon as new information becomes available.

Are there considerations for a hybrid model?

No. At this time, there are no considerations for a hybrid model. The Quincy Marriott hotel is working with us to take all necessary health-related precautions before our Centennial. This includes, but is not limited to, increasing on-site health and sanitary regulations and expanding our venue and meeting rooms to allow for social distancing.

Will there be a Centennial commemorative journal published?

Yes. The Heritage & Archives sub-committee will handle all archival retrieval.

What is the confirmed itinerary of events thus far?

To date, the confirmed activities are as follows: a Welcome Reception, a gala, a community service project, and a Rededication Ceremony. The designated sub-committees are tasked with developing the Centennial agenda and filling our reserved spaces with interactive and fun activities throughout the weekend.

Does the Quincy Marriott offer shuttle service from Logan Airport?

No. Sorors are encouraged to use rideshares (Uber, Lyft, etc.), public transportation, or carpool to the MBTA Red Line Quincy Adams subway station. The Quincy Marriott offers a complimentary shuttle from the Quincy Adams MBTA station to the hotel.

Can I still register for the Centennial?

Yes. Soror can register through the African Violet Plan. This plan opens up Tuesday, June 1, 2021. For more information on the details of the plan and how to register, click here!
