Welcome to the website of The Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. On December 29th, 1921 the Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was chartered in Boston, Massachusetts by 16 trailblazing women. For 101 years, members of the Iota Chapter have served as leaders on our respective campuses and continue to serve Greater Boston through public service initiatives and programming that align with those communities’ unique challenges and needs. Currently, the Iota Chapter is a city-wide chapter comprising the following schools: Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Emerson College, Northeastern University, and Simmons University.
As the semester begins, we want to address you with a message of encouragement, as we remind you of your worth, history, and the remarkable ability you possess to shape a brighter future. It’s disheartening to witness the legislative efforts states within the U.S. are enforcing such as the restriction of teaching African American History and the banishment of certain literature from our schools. Despite their efforts, it is important to remember that our history can never be erased and our stories are too powerful to be silenced. The legacy of our ancestors, from civil rights leaders to trailblazing artists, will continue to inspire us to persevere, advocate for justice, and stand in the face of adversity.
Furthermore, as we navigate the complexities of our time, we must acknowledge the overturning of both supreme court cases Roe v. Wade (Reproductive Rights) and Students for Fairs Admission v. Harvard (Affirmative Action). As challenges may arise, remember that you possess the strength to overcome obstacles and make your mark in various fields. We must stand together and ensure that ALL individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the rights and healthcare they deserve. We must continue to emphasize the relevance of historical disparities and the purpose of affirmative action as the mission to level the playing field remains critical in the pursuit of social justice.
All in all, let us proceed with remaining steadfast in our commitment to progress by celebrating our culture, embracing our history, and standing in solidarity. As well as continue to use education, unity, and empathy to challenge ignorance and promote understanding. Although the road ahead might be challenging, those challenges will present opportunities for growth change, and positive impact.
